4 Install the Router
Follow these steps to install the router.
Connect the Router to the Local Network
You need to provide a straight-through Ethernet cable for connecting the router to the local Ethernet network. For more
information on these cables, refer to the “Cabling Specifications” chapter in the hardware installation guide that came with the
router.
Step 1 Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the yellow 10/100 ETHERNET port.

Step 2 Connect the other end to a 10-, 100-, or 10/100-Mbps port on the hub or switch. The router senses the port speed and
duplex mode and then operates at the same speed and duplex.
Caution Always connect the Ethernet cable to the yellow ports on the router. Do not connect the cable to an ISDN S/T or U
port (on a WAN interface card) or to an NT1 that is connected to a WAN interface card. Accidently connecting the
cable to the wrong port can damage your router.
