Task 1. Verifying Basic Setup
Matching the Cisco IOS Software Images
The dial shelf and router shelf run separate Cisco IOS software images:
• Both images must be from the same Cisco IOS release. They must match. Cisco IOS Release
12.0(4)XL1 is used in this example.
• The router shelf’s image is in the Cisco 7206s Flash memory. It begins with “c5800.” The dial
shelf’s image is in the DSC card. It begins with “dsc.”
On the router shelf, check the Cisco IOS software image, uptime, and restart reason:

The Cisco 7206 router shelf booted from the external PCMCIA
Flash card at slot 0.
The router shelf does not have internal Flash memory. If the
PCMCIA Flash card is missing, the router shelf will not boot.
