Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Troubleshooting and Maintenance Guide, R3.3

Chapter 3 Card Reference
Unprotected Cards (1:0 Protection)
3.5 Unprotected Cards (1:0 Protection)
Unprotected cards are not included in a protection scheme; therefore, a card failure or a signal error
results in lost data. An unprotected configuration is sometimes called 1:0 protection. Because no
bandwidth is reserved for protection, unprotected schemes maximize the available ONS 15454 SDH
bandwidth. Figure 3-3 shows the ONS 15454 SDH in an unprotected configuration. All cards are in a
working state.

3.6 Timing Communication and Control (TCC-I) Card
The TCC-I performs system initialization, provisioning, alarm reporting, maintenance, diagnostics, IP
address detection/resolution, SDH SOH Data Communications Channel (DCC) termination, and system
fault detection for the ONS 15454 SDH. The TCC-I also ensures that the system maintains Stratum 3 E
(G.813) timing requirements. Figure 3-4 shows the TCC-I faceplate and Figure 3-5 shows a block
diagram of the card.
