Chapter 2 Making Calls on Your Phone
Setting Up and Receiving Priority Calls
2-12
Cisco IP Phone 7960G and 7940G User Guide

Setting Up a Priority Call
When you set up a precedence call, you select a priority level for the call based
on a preconfigured pattern of numbers assigned by your system administrator.
(Precedence levels are selected on a per-call basis.)
Receiving a Priority Call
A precedence call is a call with a higher priority than an existing call.
When you receive a precedence call, an icon indicating the priority level is
displayed on your phones LCD screen and you will hear a special ring tone. To
connect a precedence call, you must hang up the phone. You will hear a priority
ring tone, and the precedence call is connected.
Follow these steps to set up and receive an MLPP call.
Procedure
Step 1 Dial the MLPP call using the numbers configured by your system administrator
(for example, dial 90 followed by the extension).
You will hear the preemption tone if the call is to be preempted by the higher
priority call.
Step 2 If you are the called party, acknowledge the priority call by hanging up the phone,
which preempts the existing call.
You will hear a priority ringing tone, and the priority call is connected.
If you do not acknowledge the priority call, the call is redirected. See the MLPP
Messages section on page 2-13 for additional information.
